Ruth Aretta
Wiley Maxey
Mar 16, 1923 — Feb 17, 2022
Princeton
The world was blessed by her presence for 98 years and 11 months. May we cherish the memory of her unselfish life, sweet smile, soothing voice, and warm personality for years to come. Born March 16, 1923 at Glenwood, she departed this life on February 17, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Preston and Malendia Hensley Wiley. Survived by a son Nigel (Sharon) of Princeton. Grandchildren: Sheri (Jay) Wilson and Crystal Maxey of Bradley, Seth Maxey of Mount Airy, North Carolina. Great grandson Joshua Wilson of Bradley. Daughters-in-law Marjorie Maxey of Bluefield and Ruby Maxey of Mount Airy, North Carolina. Preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Aaron Burr Maxey; three sons, Silas, Fairley, and Lyle Maxey. Brothers: Dennis and Dan Wiley. Sisters: Esther Kinser and Naomi White. She dedicated her life to the service of God and humanity. She was often a caretaker for many in the family. Even as a child she was often called on to assist aging family members when they were ill. Her son Fairley, though of sharp mind, had many physical limitations including not being able to walk. She gave him the best of love and care for the 60 years of his life. She was caretaker for her grandmother, mother, sister, husband, others. With few modern conveniences, she was often up at 5:00 in the morning, and still going until around midnight, doing for her family all the things that money could not buy, never complaining. She retained her keen intellect through nearly 99 years of life. She loved gardening, read loads of books but especially her Bible. She liked keeping in touch with friends and working puzzles. And in earlier days enjoyed sewing and quilting. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from the Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Joshua Wilson officiating. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Friends may visit with the family Monday, February 21, 2022 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.memorialfd.com . The Maxey family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
