Zelma S Karnes, 91, of Princeton, died Tuesday, September 20, 2022, in Bluefield. She was born July 22, 1931, to the late Powell and Margaret Sluss of Mud Fork, Tazewell County VA.  She attended Sluss School in Mud Fork and graduated from Tazewell High School in 1949.  Zelma attended West Virginia Business School.  Zelma worked for Service Storage and Transfer and later for Smith Transfer.  She married, raised her family then worked for Kmart.  Retired then most recently worked for Council on Aging.  She loved working and helping other people.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, her husband, James Robert Karnes and three brothers Wilbor, Phillip and Donald Sluss. Survivors include daughters, Catherine Hefner and husband Ronnie Hefner of Rock Hill SC, Becky Lynn Shotwell from Princeton WV, Mary Beth and husband Charles Hennessee Jr of Hickory NC; Sons, William Ray Karnes and wife Lisa, Robert Royall Karnes and Barry James Karnes of Princeton; She has seven granddaughters and one grandson Colt Karnes; Seven great-grandchildren.  She was a member of Kee Street United Methodist Church, she dearly loved her church family.  She was a member of United Methodist Women and Ruth Byrd circle.  She was also a member of Parkview CEOS Club and loved these girls dearly. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Zelma Karnes, will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, September 23, 2022 from the Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Ray Stonestreet officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 P.M. (Noon) until the service hour at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Kee Street United Methodist Church.  311 Kee Street, Princeton, WV  24740.
