Winnie H. Haynes, 77, of Princeton, died suddenly Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born October 15, 1947, in Bluefield, she was the daughter of the late Herbert K. Humphreys and Carrie Peery Humphreys.
While going to high school and college, she worked at both Central and Westgate Pharmacies. Winnie graduated from Bluefield High School in 1965 and from Bluefield State College in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She taught at Tazwell Elementary until her marriage to Robert E. Haynes in 1972. They lived in Beckley where she taught at Lincoln Elementary School in Beckley until moving to Princeton. She and her husband bought the Exxon Service Station at the Courthouse in Princeton. They worked there together for over 21 years. She continued to work selling Tupperware and retired from the Mercer County Sheriff's Department in 2017.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Mitchell Humphreys (Herbie).
She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Robert E. Haynes, four sons that she was so proud of, Bobby and Kim Haynes, Greg and Rhonda Haynes, Darrin and Michelle Haynes and Mark and Beth Haynes, 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren along with a brother David and Annee Humphreys.
Funeral services will be held at 1PM Wednesday, October 30th in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Danny Gunnoe officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from noon until the service hour at the funeral home. S erving as pallbearers will be, Parker Haynes, Nick Whittington, Mitch Humphreys, Eric Parks, Steven Sommers and Russell Walker. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Robbie Haynes, Michael Haynes, Devin Haynes, Nick Haynes, Steven Haynes and Special Girl, Raina Parks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to: St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Hospital, Memphis, TN 38105-3678 or Shriners Hospital Shriners Hospitals for Children Medical Center, 3206, 110 Conn Terrace, Lexington, KY 40805.
