William "Bill"
Roy Davis, Jr.
Oct 16, 1937 — Feb 6, 2024
William "Bill" R. Davis, Jr., 86, of Princeton, died peacefully Tuesday evening, February 6, 2024, at Glenwood Healthcare Facility, with his family by his side. Born October 16, 1937, at Red Jacket, he was the son of the late Bill Davis and Verda Hatfield Davis. Bill joined the US Air Force to serve his country at an exceedingly early age in October, 1954 and separated his service in August 1958. He was of the Christian Faith and had recently given his heart to the Lord. He was a former Sales Representative for Bailey Lumber Company and Lowes of Princeton. He then joined the Princeton Police Department in 1974 and worked his way up from patrolman to Chief of Police but due to health issues, had to resign his employment in 1986. While his health permitted, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, painting, wood-working and so very much enjoyed family gatherings. And of course, like his brother Gary, a good chew of tobacco. The bond that he had with his great-grandson Aaron was undeniable and was full of laughs and love. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his loving wife, Patricia Ann Carroll Davis, son-in-law Steven Wine, two siblings, Gary Davis and Neva "Cissy" Repass. Those left to cherish his memory are his two children, Sheila Wine Renick and husband Kevin, Jeffrey Davis and wife Amanda; Four grandchildren, Matthew Wine and girlfriend Kori Myers, Asher Williams, Katelyn Matthews and husband Anthony and Carmen Whittaker; Four great-grandchildren, Aaron Wine, Alex Myers, Elizabeth and Hayden Matthews; Four siblings, Guy Davis and wife Theresa, J.W. Davis, Wetzel Davis and wife Jill and Gay Hubbard; Several nieces, nephews and friends also survive. During his stay at Glenwood, the staff developed a caring relationship with him, as he did with them. He always was quite the cut-up and kept them laughing and singing as well as the other residents. The family would like to thank the staff of Glenwood Healthcare Facility and Hospice Compassus for their love and care during his stay. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 14, 2024, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Roger Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the service hour at the funeral home. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to, Hospice Compassus, 1330 Mercer Street, Princeton, WV 24740. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Davis, Matthew Wine, Kevin Renick, Guy Davis, Jr., Kevin Davis and Anthony Matthews. Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.memorialfd.com .
