William Joe Nichols, 94, of Caldwell Street, Athens, died Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at his home. Born March 31, 1930, in Malden, WV, he was the son of the late Dolphus Shelburne Nichols and Eliza "Pat" Mullins Nichols. William was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

William was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston WV, was of the Protestant faith and loved his family dearly. He retired at the age of 89 as a self-employed and skilled machinist.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Judith Nichols Myers, three brothers, Jack, Paul and Dolphus Nichols, Jr., and a son-in-law, Donnie Duncan. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 55 years, Linda Morgan Nichols; Four children, Kimberly Nichols, Fay Nichols Duncan, Sue Nichols Edwards (Doug) and Steve Cooper (Trudy); Six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and special grandson and caregiver, David Nichols; Two granddogs, Opie and Jack.
