William O. Horne, Jr. 82, of Lashmeet, passed away unexpectedly on the afternoon of July 27, 2024. As friends and family knew him, "Big Bill" was born November 26, 1941, in McComas to the late William O. Horne Sr. and Myrtle Francis Garlic Horne, their first child.

In his early years he moved around the country with his family before returning to WV for a time until he joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 15. William was a true patriot, serving through three tours in Vietnam and one tour as an MP in Puerto Rico before returning to Parris Island to groom new Marines as Drill Instructor as well as serving in many other duty stations across the world his 13 years of service.

In 1964 he met the love of his life Carol Sue Lusk, which he courted until 1967 when the two married. Sharing 57 years of love, hope, hardships, triumphs, and partnership while raising their two sons. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his two brothers Randall Lane Horne and Thomas Scott Horne.

Those left to cherish his memory include wife Carol, two sons William III and Jeffrey, daughter in law Amy, sisters Susan Folden and companion Zeb Hill and Molly Akers, wife of Barry Akers, grandsons Alex & Colton along with a multitude of nephews, nieces and other family members and loved ones.

In accordance with his wishes no services will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family request that a donation be made in his name to the Marine Corps League Chapter 957, Princeton, P.O. Box 5268, Princeton WV 24740
