William Sherman Gillespie, 97. of Foggy Lane, Athens, Sunday, August 10, 2025, at his home. Born March 26, 1928, in Matoaka, he was the son of the late Isaac Thomas Gillespie & Rose Nell Leftwich Gillespie. He was a member of the Church of Latter-Day Saints and had served his country proudly with the U.S. Army during WW II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by eight siblings, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors include his companion of many years, Patricia Varga, two children, Regina Ramsey & Mickey Gillespie along with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Gillespie will be laid to rest in the Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk VA with full military honors on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 1:00 P.M.
