Griffith
Aug 1, 1949 — Oct 13, 2022
Wayne Bennett Griffith, 73, of Maidens, VA died on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at his residence. Born August 1, 1949, in Chester, PA, he was the son of Benjamin and Emma Jean Griffith. He was proceeded in death by his parents; his mother-in law, Geraldine Carr, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Walter, and Linda Channels. Wayne is survived by his wife, Gail Griffith, Maidens, VA. He is also survived by his three sons, Mark Griffith (Ashley), Clarksville, TN; Scott Griffith (Kristen), Williamsburg, VA; Brian Griffith (Sarah), Springfield, VA; six grandchildren, Madison Griffith, Durham, NC; Raegan Griffith, Clarksville, TN; Capri and Katarina Bryant, Williamsburg, VA; Roxie and Bennett Griffith, Springfield, VA and one great-grandchild, Rylan Barnhart, Durham, NC. Also surviving are two sisters, Charlotte Bruce (Laurie), Travelers Rest, SC; Lois Mitchell (Robert), Sanford, CT; one brother, Keith Griffith (Marcia), Manchester, NH, one aunt, Esther Sideman, Holland, PA; father-in-law, Solomon Carr, Elkins, WV, sister-in-law, Vickie Carr, Elkins,WV and several nieces and nephews. The family is grateful for the moral support of many, and the care provided by Medi Home Hospice at the end of his life. Wayne was married to Gail on August 11, 1973; true love and devotion defined their 49 years of matrimony. He worked for over 40 years in the Hospital Administration field. To Wayne, being a hospital administrator was not just a job, it was a Godly calling. Improving the care people received was a mission that brought him great joy and purpose. Wayne finished his career at Princeton Community Hospital where he retired after 10 years of service. Wayne voluntarily served in the United States Army Reserves (September 11, 1970 – April 26, 1976); patriotism and love of country were paramount in his beliefs. Steadfast contributions to Tunnels to Towers Foundation and the Wounded Warrior Foundation represent one of many examples of Wayne and Gail's commitment to Service Members and First Responders. Other organizations that were important to Wayne were American College of Healthcare Executives - Life Fellow, America Hospital Association Regional Policy Board, West Virginia Hospital Association Board of Directors, and numerous civic organizations and churches. Wayne was an avid golfer. He treasured the relationships that golf offered him. Trips to Mount Mitchell, Myrtle Beach, and The Greenbrier, in addition to weekly rounds at Sawgrass and golf outings with his sons, were always more about the people than the sport. If he wasn't on a golf course, he would choose to be sitting on his back deck watching wildlife, reading a book at the beach, playing with his grandchildren/great-grandchild, or, most of all, spending time with his wife. After a 2 ½ year journey with cancer, Wayne departed this life to go to the room that God has prepared for him. The viewing will be Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Hill and Wood Funeral Service, 201 1st St N, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
