Walter Herman Taylor, 92, of River Ridge Road, Pipestem, passed away after a short illness Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Princeton Community Hospital. Born October 11, 1931, in Roderfield, he was the son of the late Alfred Taylor and Minnie Reed Taylor. Walter served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his service, he owned and operated a service station in Princeton, while earning his fixed wing pilot license. Walter left Princeton to join the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington D.C., becoming a member of the first Air Support Unit as a helicopter pilot. After 20 years of service, Walter retired to Pipestem, WV. While his health permitted, he enjoyed gardening, hunting, and traveling. He and his beloved wife would travel across the United States several times and to the Florida Keys. Walter enjoyed those hobbies, but nothing compared to his love and enjoyment of his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, 63 years, Oneida "Cookie" Taylor; sisters, Lorene Reid and Betty Shore. Left to cherish Walter's memory are his children, Mitchell Scott Taylor and wife, Mary, Michael R. Taylor and wife, Kelley, Lorilee Taylor, and Mark Taylor, and wife, Tracy; brother, Carl Taylor; sisters, Carrie Yurkovich and Lois Taylor; six grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 26, 2024, from the Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor David White officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery, Princeton. Friends may visit with the family from 10 A.M. until the service hour at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
