Virginia Louise Baker, 81, of New Hope Road, Bluefield, died Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Princeton Community Hospital. Born December 20, 1942, in Christiansburg, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William Russell Shrewsberry and Velma Mae Lowry Shrewsberry. Mrs. Baker was formerly employed with the Tazewell County Board of Education and had served as a Census Commissioner for the U.S. government.  She was a member of the Midway Church of Christ. She met her husband in her childhood home of Blacksburg, VA where he was attending VA Tech. After starting a family Virginia became a homemaker and became very good at cooking and making clothes for her children, her square dancing friends, and others. She also enjoyed keeping the scorebook for her husband's softball teams. After her children were old enough to go to school she started babysitting other children in her home which led to lifetime friendships with the children and their parents. After her children were grown she was able to spend more time pursuing quilting, traveling to the beach, and going to NASCAR races. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by two sisters, Barbara Flinchum and Dorothy Turman. Those left to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Paul Frederick Baker, Jr.; Five children, Daniel Ray Baker, Barbara Elizabeth Baker, David Rick Baker and wife Nikki, Michael Larry Baker and wife Christy Sue and Paul Todd Baker and wife Sara; Four grandchildren; Two great-grandchildren; Two half-brothers, Dennis and Russell Shrewsberry.
