Virgilia "Jill"
Keaton
Nov 15, 1955 — Oct 3, 2023
Virgilia (Jill) Keaton, 67, of Pine Grove Road, Lerona, was carried away peacefully by angels to meet her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. Born, November 15, 1955, in Princeton, she was the daughter of the late Ambrose Harris, Jr. and Mary Virginia Lamb Harris. Jill loved her Lord, her family, especially her grandchildren, her church family and raising her dogs. She was a faithful and active member of the Lerona United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, on occasion she would play the piano for church services and was involved in other activities of the church. Jill was a strong believer in prayer, always requesting prayer for others and she had a servant's heart. She was a 1973 graduate of Athens High School. For the past 28 years, she served as a volunteer firefighter, EMS First Responder and in the past few years, served as the department's secretary, all for the Pipestem Volunteer Fire Department. Jill had her own business called "Sucherquelle German Shepherds" where she raised search and rescue dogs that have been sent all over the world. She also had a kennel for those who wanted to board their dogs. Jill had a mind of her own and often spoke it. You knew where you stood with her. Two of her favorite sayings were, "God's Got This" and "Walk With a Purpose People!" In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Gail Keaton. Left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted husband of 38 years, Jimmy Keaton; Two children, Cody Keaton and wife Marie and Kelly Patterson and husband Steve; Four grandchildren, Sarah and Evan Bennett, Michael Patterson and Terance Keaton; One brother, John Harris; One sister, June Hawkey and husband Mark; Father-in-law, Norman Keaton; Sister-in-law, Ruth Kephart and husband Scott; Brothers-in-law, Kennith Keaton and Robbie Keaton and wife Beth; Several nieces, nephews, cousins and her church family also survive. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Jill Keaton will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Lerona United Methodist Church with Pastor David White officiating. Burial will follow in the Knob Cemetery in Pipestem. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 (Noon) until the service hour at the church. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
