Obituary

Travis Wayne Peck, 87, died on Sunday, February 12, 2023. Born in Pearisburg Va. on March 9, 1935, to the late Echols E. Peck and Margaret Cleigh Dunn Peck. He lived in Peterstown, W.V. for the first six months of his life, then moved to Princeton for the rest of his life.  Travis graduated from Thorn School on Thorn Street in 1949 and Princeton High School on Straley Avenue in 1953. He worked for G.K. White's Service Station on Thorn Street for six years after school and on weekends and retired from GTE in 1990 with 34 years service. He served his country in the Army starting basic training in Fort Riley, Kansas and mechanic's school in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was stationed in Germany after his training.   He loved to travel and used some of his military time to visit Paris, France and London, England plus a lot of Germany. He also went to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee every year for the first 25 years it was open. He was a member of the Princeton Moose Lodge #1521 where he held office several times, earning his Fellowship Degree, The New Moose Lodge #2718, the Princeton Elks Lodge #1459, the Bluefield Eagles Arie #857, an Associate Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, and The NRA. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Princeton. He frequented Amy's House of Hope to enjoy the singing and preaching, he also enjoyed the companionship of his friends there. He was preceded in death by his father, Echols E. Peck and mother, Margaret Cleigh Peck, and step-mother, Sadie Peck from Narrows, Va. who he thought of like another mother, and former wife Thelma Peck, mother of three of his children and Judy Shrader, mother of two of his children. Survivors include six daughters and one son, Karen D. Smith and husband Lewis, of Princeton, W.V., Sharon R. Peck and companion Jackie Kimbleton of Princeton, W.V., Lisa A. Jones and husband, Robert of Bluefield, W.Va., 'Cinda C. Peck of Bluefield, W.Va. Rita Hughes and husband Kenneth of Henslay, W.V., and Melanie Perdue of Fairmont, WV. and Travis W. Peck Jr. of Princeton, WV; He is also survived by a half-brother, James E. Peck and wife Linda of Pembroke, Va.; Half-sister, Lisa Hockman and husband George of Spotsylvania, Va; He has six grandchildren. Nathanial I. Smith, son of Karen, Trista N. Smith, daughter of Sharon, Danillia Moore and David Gilley, children of Lisa, Ethan and Isabella Perdue, children of Melanie, Three step-grand children, Matthew,Tyler and Michaela Jones; Six great-grandchildren; He will be dearly missed by his children, family, and friends. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Travis Wayne Peck, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 17, 2023, from the Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Jason Spade officiating.  Burial with military graveside rites provided by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard and the WV National Honor Guard in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family Thursday, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
