Teddy "Ted" Mac Shumate, 93, of Princeton, was ushered into the arms of his Lord and Savior Saturday, January 18, 2025, with his loving family by his side. Born June 20, 1931, in Saulsville, he was the son of the late Ted Shumate and Laura Bower Shumate.
Ted was a graduate of Pineville High School, Class of 1949, where he was the first boy to be inducted into the National Honor Society. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Navy, while serving with the Navy, he received the National Defense Service Medal and Navy Occupation Service Medal (E).
Ted had worked for Downard Hydraulics and retired from EIMCO Machinery as a machinist. He was a long-time member of First Church of God, Mahood Avenue in Princeton, having taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, board of trustees along with various other committees. Ted loved his family, especially his grandkids and great grandchildren. He will long be remembered for his humor, off the wall jokes and laugher.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Pauline, Roy, Freda, Roland, Frank and Carl. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Those left to cherish his memory, his loving and faithful wife of nearly 70 years, Nina Beatrice "Bea" Meadows Shumate; Three daughters, Brenda Carbaugh, Anita Herzog and husband Mike, Sandy Carroll and husband Gene; Eight grandchildren; Thirteen great-grandchildren; One great-great-grandchild; Several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express the sincere appreciation for the love and care given by the staff of Princeton Health Care Center.
In honoring Ted's life, a service to celebration will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 24, 2025, First Church of God, 301 Mahood Avenue, Princeton, with Pastor Ray Jones officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit the family on Friday from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour at the church. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
