Stanley
Woods
Sep 17, 1951 — Jan 2, 2025
Come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord. Isaiah 2:5 KJV
A Veteran- whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve - is someone,
who, at one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The
United States of America," for an amount of "up to and including my life."
On January 2, 2025, Stanley Woods completed his earthly journey and passed peacefully from this life to join family waiting for him in Heaven. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hattie White Woods, brother Harold, nephew Andrew, and in-laws, Buster and Joyce Shorter. Stanley proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1971 - 1973, with one year of service in Vietnam as a medical corpsman, he also served in the United States Marine Corps from 1973 - 1975. He had been employed with Consol at the Jenkin Jones mine, Eastern Vault, Eastern Ridge Lime Company, and Virginian Supply Company, before becoming disabled from health conditions related to his military service. Stanley was an active member of the White Cemetery Association and Bethel Cemetery Association. He was baptized in the Baptist faith in 1984. Stanley was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and friend. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Rita Shorter Woods, daughters, Jocelyn Woods and fiancé Tim Sizemore, and Allison Woods and boyfriend Chris Peake. Sister, Susan Bradley and James, brothers Gary and Mary Woods and their family, Hank and Judy Shorter, Robby and Debbie Shorter, and their son, Josh. He also leaves behind special aunts, Mary Faye Chappell and Wanda Quesenberry, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his best friend, Scott McQuade. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the Beckley VAMC for the many years of medical care, as well as Amedysis Hospice and nurses Mandy and Connie with their assistance in caring for our loved one at home. Honoring his request, his body has been cremated, and no formal services will be held. His ashes will be interred at Bethel Cemetery at a later date. Due to extreme allergies, the family requests no flowers, and encourages donations to support local veterans, food banks or any charity you might choose to support in his honor. Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.memorialfd.com The Woods family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory & Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
