Obituary

Sherrie M. Ballard, age 74 of Lerona, WV, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, at Mercer Healthcare Center.

Sherrie was born in Potsdam, New York to Bernard and Viola Clary. She attended Peru High School before joining the United States Navy. She served as a hospital corpsman in Portsmouth, VA and in Guam. While in the Navy she met the love of her life Daniel Ballard. Sherrie always said, “I was drunk and asked him to dance and I haven’t drank since“. After a short courtship, Dan and Sherrie married on November 13th, 1971. They spent 54 loving years together; they were a remarkable example of what true love and commitment means.

Sherrie was an avid sports fan, depending on the season she could be found watching a major league baseball game or college basketball. She loved sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee and good conversation. She was known for her quick wit and laughter and gave the best advice when needed. Sherrie was an amazing cook; she often shared her love through good food and sweet treats.

Sherrie was most proud of her children and would talk about them with anyone who would listen. She was the greatest mom when her kids were young and became their best friend as they aged. Sherrie’s favorite times were when all three of her children were together.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Daniel Ballard.

Her favorite children are Christopher (Sharon) of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, Matthew (Kelly) of Pensacola, Florida and Aimee (Samantha) of Riner, Virginia. The resolve of which child was the actual favorite has yet to be determined.
