Shelby Jean Martin Jennings, 84, of Athens, died Friday evening, December 29, 2023, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born April 2, 1939, on Bent Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Charlton "Top" Martin and Myrtle Alvis Martin. Mrs. Jennings was educated in Mercer County, a member of Peaceful Valley Church and a lifelong resident of Mercer County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband Billy Hugh Jennings, daughter Darla Jennings and a son Billy B. Jennings, along with three siblings, William Martin, Frank Martin and Gerry Clyburn. Left to carry on her legacy, her son Timothy Jennings and wife Lisa of Athens; Daughter, Prema Stilwell of Lerona; Grandchildren, Jeremiah Stilwell (Elisha), Terra Hammond (Heath), Hannah Albert (Spencer), Roland Tucker (Rebecca), Mark Jennings (Mallory), and Andrew Jennings; Great-grandchildren, Caleb, Jeremiah, Morgan and Elijah; Great-great-grandchildren, Gwenyth "Gee"; One sister, Bertha Wiley of Salem, VA; A special friend, Tonya Vereen and Amedysis Hospice for being so kind. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 4, 2024, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Randall Shrewsbury officiating. Burial will follow in the Athens Cemetery in Athens. Friends may call Thursday from 1:00P.M. until the service hour at the funeral home.
