Obituary

Sharon Pettrey Brooks, 81, of Huntington, formerly of Princeton, died peacefully after a lengthy illness on September 17, 2024. She was born on March 5, 1943, in Mercer County, the second daughter of Oliver and Muriel Mann Pettrey. She lived most of her life in Princeton, moving to Huntington in 2017 and to Paramount Assisted Living in 2021. Sharon graduated from Princeton High School in 1961 and spent over 30 years working for the Mercer County Board of Education. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John E. Brooks Jr. along with two sisters Shirley Johnston and Bonnie Harman. She is survived by two children: Jennifer (Kyle) Copeland of Pearisburg, VA and Jason (Laura) Brooks of Huntington. She had five grandchildren, Lydia (Trey) Caines of Louisville, KY, Kathryn (Willie) Cline of Huntington, Zechariah Brooks (Fiancée Cynthia Hubbard) of Huntington, Isaac and Maryanna Brooks of Huntington. One great-grandchild, Eliza Cline of Huntington. She is also survived by sister, Donna Hamm of Athens, brother, Eddie (Penny) Pettrey of Princeton, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Pastor Eddie Pettrey officiating. Those wishing to attend are requested to meet at the Memorial Funeral Directory on Athens Road in Princeton by 10:30 A.M.  Their will be no visitation.  The family has requested in lieu of flowers donations be made in honor of Sharon to Fellowship Christian Church in Princeton or to Providence Reformed Presbyterian Church in Barboursville, WV.  Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.memorialfd.com Serving as pallbearers will Zechariah Brooks, Isaac Brooks, Trey Caines, Willie Cline, Todd Hamm and Harold Jones.  The Brooks family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
