Obituary

SFC Edward "Ed" Robert Chalifoux, a 94-year-old resident of Princeton, West Virginia, peacefully passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, surrounded by his closest loved ones.

Born on September 19, 1931, in Springfield, Massachusetts, Ed was the son of the late Joseph Wm Chalifoux and his wife, Florence Labarre Chalifoux.

As a young man, Ed dedicated over two decades of his life to serving his country with pride in the U.S. Army. His service was recognized with numerous medals, including the Purple Heart earned in combat during the Korean War. After retiring from the military, Ed embarked on a fulfilling career as a Senior Quality Control Engineer at Bechtel Constructors Corporation.

During his military service, Ed discovered his passion for travel. His extensive travel experiences equipped him with an uncanny ability to provide directions to seemingly any destination without the need for a map. He shared this love of travel with his beloved companion and best friend, Nancy Stahl. Together, they logged over a quarter of a million miles, enjoying both the company of each other and the breathtaking scenery they encountered along the way. Nancy served as Ed's co-pilot and navigator, ensuring their journeys were both safe and enjoyable.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Paula Chalifoux; his sisters, Helen and Ester; and his stepson, Shane Bates.

In addition to Nancy Stahl, Ed is survived by his stepchildren, Anthony Bates, Tammy Bates, Susan Bates, Lisa Bucklew, Kimberley Catron and Robbie Catron; seven step grandsons; five step granddaughters; and many others who affectionately knew him as Pawpaw Ed.
