Sandra (Sandy) Kay
Cunningham
Sep 4, 1956 — May 19, 2026
With her eyes toward heaven and a smile on her face, Sandra (Sandy) Kay Cunningham, 69, of Seven Springs, NC, formerly of Speedway, moved to her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at ECU Medical Center in Greenville, NC.
Born September 4, 1956, in Princeton, she was the daughter of the late Arnette A. Cunningham and Pauline Frances Schulte Cunningham. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings Norma Jean Wimmer, Authur Estel (Bud) Cunningham, Harold Mason (Duck) Cunningham and Dorothy Leigh (Dottie) Brinkley. Left to cherish her memory is her loving companion of 17 years, Emmett Tucker, Jr., her siblings Franklin Eugene Cunningham, Bessie Irene Wingate, Arnetta Faye Worrell, Gary Lee Cunningham (Linda), Arnette Francis Cunningham and brother-in-law, Curtis Brinkley, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be dearly missed by Cristina Orgel (who was like a daughter to her) along with her boys Ethan and Elijah, a very dear friend, Sissy Combs, her church family and her little buddy Benjamin. She is also survived by her fur babies Bubbles, Little Tucker, Allie Mae, Samantha, Chance and Jenny Rose.
Sandy was a loving daughter, sister, companion, aunt and friend. She lived life, enjoyed being with her family and friends and having a personal relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She retired after over 20 years as a Nursing Assistant in the Emergency Department at Lenoir Hospital, a job she truly loved. Sandy was a lover of animals, especially rescue animals. If there was a stray dog or cat she would bring it home, take it to the vet and provide for any special needs.
Sandy was faithful to read her Bible and spend time in prayer. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23. She often expressed her desire that she not be left behind. She kept in touch with her family by phone and daily text messages, always encouraging them to love each other. Sandy attended the Union Baptist Church in Seven Springs. She really enjoyed watching Dr. Charles Staney and listening to his inspired messages before she went to church.
The family has honored Sandy’s request to be cremated.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Painter’s Chapel Church in Speedway, WV, with Pastor Randy Sargent officiating. Friends may visit the family at the church from 12:00 noon until the service hour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Mercer County Humane Society, P. O.
