Roy Eugene (Gene) Neely, 69, of Old Athens Road, Princeton, died Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born, August 17, 1954, in Princeton, he was the son of the late Roy Lee Neely and Crystal Margaret Pennington Neely. Gene was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. He had worked for the Dean Company, Norfolk Southern and Appalachian Log. Gene was a member of Johnston Chapel Church in Princeton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Malinda Sue Neely, his 2nd wife Betty Jean "BJ" Neely and his son, Brandon Neely. Left to cherish his memory his granddaughter, Layla Hicks; Step-daughter, Donna Barton and husband Mark; Step-grandson, Cortland Hurst; Several cousins and friends also survive. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 10, 2023, at Rocky Mount Cemetery in Pipestem with Pastor Jim Simmons officiating. Those attending the services are requested to meet at the cemetery by service hour. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in Gene's memory to the Mercer County Animal Sheter, 961 Shelter Road, Princeton, WV 24740.
