Ronald Wayne "Possum" Akers, 55, of Bluefield, died peacefully Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a very short illness. Born February 23, 1969, in Bluefield, he was the son of Clara Ruth Caudill Akers of Bluefield and the late Ronald H. Akers. Ronnie graduated from Bluefield High School in 1987.  He began his career in the furniture industry that spanned more than 34 years, working with Heiley-/Myers Store in Green Valley, it merged with Schewels Furniture Store in Princeton where he was the manager until his death. Ronnie attended the Cumberland Road Church of God. He was an avid Bluefield Beaver, WVU & Dallas Cowboys fan. Ronnie loved going to the beach. Those left to cherish his memory, his mother Clara, his wife of 24 years ,Theresa Hall Akers, daughter Stephanie Nicole Akers, two brothers, Dwight Harrison Akers & wife Wilma, Brian Scott Akers, along with nieces and nephews; Ashley Stateler & husband Trent, Kayleigh, Savanna, Reagen, Andrew and Brandon Akers  Two great nephews, Bryan & Hunter Stateler and his four legged buddy Cup Cake.  Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the Cumberland Road Church of God in Bluefield with Bishop Michael York officiating. Burial will follow in the Akers Family Cemetery at Bull Tail Hollow, Bluefield.  Friends may visit the family on Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Church and one hour prior to services.
