Roger Neil Pennington, 63, of Athens, WV, passed away on October 3, 2024. He was born to Margaret Juanita and Robert F. "June" Pennington on November 9, 1960. Preceded in death His parents, Margaret Juanita and Robert F. "June" Pennington, and siblings Ann Pennington, Douglas Pennington, and Shelby Vaught.
Legacy
Survived by his children: Michelle Buckland and husband Danny of Athens, Joey Pennington and Leann of Princeton, and Jason Pennington and wife Kelli of Bluefield. His grandchildren: Kaiden Burchette, Liam Burchette, Rylan Pennington, and Devin T. His siblings: Sandy Pennington, Rosemary Bailey, Brenda Pennington, Metty Cowan, Bo Pennington, and Dennis Pennington.
Roger, a graduate of Athens High School, was a unique, funny, and hardworking individual. He could often be found riding his beloved John Deere mower around Athens, doing yard work for many town residents, and catching up with his many dear friends on the infamous "Liars Bench" at The Deli Mart. Known as "The Music Man" in his neighborhood on Unity Road, Roger enjoyed listening to music outdoors by his fire pit with his cat Rick James and the stray cats and wildlife he welcomed and cared for.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Roger's numerous friends, including Randy Wyrick, special friend Amber McClure and her son Donnie, and to Linda Poe who cared for his cats once he was no longer able. The family would also like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Lindside Healthcare Center for providing extraordinary care and compassion to Roger during his time with them. Your kindness and dedication will never be forgotten.
Services
Roger will be cremated by Memorial Funeral Directory. A private service will be held for his close family.
Donations
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his honor to be made to the Southern WV Animal League. Online condolences can be shared with the family via www.memorialfd.com . The Pennington family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on Athens Road in Princeton.
