Roberta Catherine
(Kniffin) Woodson
Sep 18, 1942 — Jan 21, 2025
Roberta Catherine (Kniffin) Woodson, 82, of Arlington, Virginia, passed away at home on January 21, 2025, after a long illness.
Born in Princeton, West Virginia to Robert Roy and Emma Elizabeth (McKenzie) Kniffin on September 18, 1942, Roberta was a 1960 graduate of Princeton High School and attended Concord University in Athens, West Virginia, with a major in accounting. After visiting her sister Beth, who was living in Washington, DC at the time, Roberta found a job and never looked back. She met and married her beloved Hamilton "Ham" Browning Woodson, Jr. They were married for over 20 years at the time of his death.
An Arlington resident for over 60 years, Roberta enjoyed volunteering, gardening, and traveling. She was a proud member of the Walker Chapel United Methodist Church (lending her beautiful soprano voice to the choir and her flower arranging skills for services and weddings). She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, Civitan's, Garden Club, and the Matthew French chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution for many years. She worked for a variety of organizations, including the Girl Scouts, law firms, hotels, and schools, retiring in 2015 from IDI in Arlington. In many ways, Roberta was the caretaker of the Modock-McKenzie Clan; she stayed in contact with the cousins and organized family reunions.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all her aunts and uncles. She leaves behind two children, Robaleen "Robbi" Woodson of Arlington, Virginia, and Mark Gregory (Lisa) of Annandale, Virginia; two grandchildren, Tyler Gregory of Salt Lake City, Utah and Coryn Gregory of Nokesville, Virginia; her sister, Helen Elizabeth (Kniffin) Craig and children, Linda Craig King and Carl (Kim) Craig; many cousins; and friends.
The family wishes to thank Elaine McKenzie, Karen Lee, and Greg Priddy for their help and support during her long illness.
