Richard N. Crockett, 69, of Fairmont, formerly of Princeton & Welch, died peacefully Sunday, March 16, 2025, at his home with his family and lifelong friends by his side. Born May 19, 1955, in Welch, he was the son of the late Robert N. Crockett Jr. & Helen L. Ward Crockett. Richard was a 1973 graduate of Welch High School. Richard was raised in McDowell County but spent the majority of his adulthood in Princeton, WV. Upon retirement and becoming grandparents, he and his wife moved to Fairmont, WV. Richard began a career in coal mining in 1975 at Pinnacle #50 mines in Wyoming County and retired from Cleveland Cliffs Mining. Richard worked tirelessly as an underground miner, fire boss, mine foreman, and dispatcher but his passion was in the area of mine rescue. He loved being a part of his mine rescue team and was especially proud of his position as their captain. Together, his teams won many competitions. Spanning over two decades as captain of the U.S. Steel's Pinnacle Mine Rescue Team, he and his teammates took home numerous First Place Wins including two National Mine Rescue Competitions in 2005 and 2013. Richard was a well respected Mine Rescue Captain and Trainer. Anyone who served with or was trained by Richard has been deeply affected by his commitment and compassion to Mine Rescue. His legacy lives on in today's teams, competitions, and industry commitment to Mine Rescue as well as Fire Brigade. In 2022, Richard was honored to be inducted into the Mine Rescue Hall of Fame Coal Division in Lexington, Kentucky. In Addition to his parents, he was preceded by two brothers, David Crockett & Ronnie Crockett. Those left to cherish his memory are his high school sweetheart who became his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Diana Belcher Crockett, two sons, Robert Eric Crockett, Kevin Richard Crockett & wife Allena, four grandchildren, Lilia, Scarlett, Grayson & Conrad. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 21, 2025, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Vondie Lee Cook Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
