Retired SSGT. Charles S. Wimmer, 94, of Princeton, died Saturday evening, May 21, 2022, at his home. Born April 16, 1928, in Roanoke Virginia, he was the son of the late William and Ann Wimmer. Retired SSGT. proudly served his country for more than 20 years, with the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict where he received the Good Conduct Medal (3 rd Award) and the World War II Victory Medal. Following his retirement from the service, Charles worked as a tax consultant in the area for many years. He was a member of the Princeton Church of the Nazarene on the Oakvale Road in Princeton. He was a member of the D.A.V. and the American Legion Post of Bluefield. In his spare time, he was a train collector and an avid John Wayne movie enthusiast and loved teasing people. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by two sisters: Betty Gentry and Thelma McCollins. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Autry Crawford Wimmer; Two children, Charles S. Wimmer Jr. and Dr. Jeannette Cockroft. Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Roselawn Memorial Garden in Princeton with Pastor John Branham officiating, Full military honors will be under the direction of the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend are requested to meet at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton by 10:30 A.M. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family as requested donations be made in Charles memory to, Hospice Compassus, 1330 Mercer Street, Princeton, WV 24740. Online condolences may be shared via www.memorialfd.com . Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The Wimmer family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
