Rebecca Darlene Rodebaugh passed away peacefully July 29, 2023, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC. Born June 29, 1952, in Princeton, WV she was raised in Princeton, WV and Chevy Chase, MD. She worked in the restaurant industry, the radio and television rating industry, and finally finished her career in medical research and clinical studies. An accomplished baker, particularly of cakes, she loved creating birthday and wedding cakes for family and friends throughout her life. Also a skilled seamstress, she made many custom clothes, curtains and wedding dresses for loved ones over the years, but she most enjoyed the elaborate and creative Halloween costumes she created for her beloved grandchildren and grandnephews. Darlene will be remembered for her kindness, patience and most of all, her impeccable sense of humor that will live on through her superior knack for storytelling that she passed on to her son.
She is preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth Jacqueline Sumrell, father Thomas Gene Sumrell and brother Melvin Charles Sumrell. She leaves behind her husband of 18 years, Charles Robert Rodebaugh, her son Richard Arlen Symonds (Catherine Urriola), granddaughters Skylar Beck Symonds, Cassidy Rayne Symonds and Isabella Jacqueline Symonds, grandson Nathaniel Charles Symonds, brother James Mark Sumrell (Bobbie Sumrell), sister-in-law Cynthia Bauldry Sumrell, nieces Michelle Jill Sumrell (Jordan Scott) and Heather Dawn Villa, and very dear grandnephews Mason Calvin Scott, James Maddox Villa and Mark Riley Villa, and many more loving aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also close to and will be missed by her husband's grandchildren Charles Robert Rodebaugh III, Courtney Leigh Rodebaugh and Colton Emerson Rodebaugh.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, August 6, 2023, at The Chuck Mathena Center, #2 Stafford Commons, Princeton, WV 24740. Friends and family are invited to visit at 2:00 PM, services will be held at 3:00 PM with Pastor Jim Simmons officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org/ways-to-give) or the National Kidney Foundation (www.support.kidney.org).
The Rodebaugh family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
