Phyllis Irene Powell Hager Bowen
December 3, 1932 - January 24, 2026
Phyllis Irene Powell Hager Bowen (fondly known by many as "Nanny") of Lerona, WV, born December 3, 1932 at Lex, West Virginia passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
She was the daughter of the late Auvil Powell and Dora Mullins Powell. She was preceded in death by husbands Alvin Lee Hager, Sr, and Dan Bowen and son Alvin Lee Hager Jr.
She was also preceded in death by brothers John Paul Powell, Robert Prater, Gene Prater, and sister Arlene Long.
Survivors include one brother Bill Prater (Carolyn) of Snellville, GA. Daughters Syreda Jessee (Steve), Cecilia (Pie) Hager Walls of Princeton, WV, and Sandra Hager of Lerona, WV. Grandchildren, Jarrod Jessee, Josh Jessee, Loren Miller, Nathanial Hoge, Britni Ellis, and Alvin Lee Hager, III. Six great-grandchildren Hayden, Arly, Nova, Tyler, Isaac and Allie and multiple nieces and nephews.
Sister Rene was licensed through the United Christian Ministerial Association of Cleveland, TN. She was presented an honorary doctorate of divinity for her many years of service in the ministry through United Christian Ministerial Association.
Sister Rene's focus in life was first her ministry and then family. She spent her entire life serving the Lord, evangelizing throughout the eastern United States in addition to a ministry in faith based TV and radio, "The Hour of Prayer". She encouraged all through her unwavering faith in God's promises. Her testimony was, "I want everybody to go to heaven, but if they don't go, I AM GOING TO HEAVEN IF NO ONE ELSE DOES."
She faithfully attended Grace Temple Church in Princeton, WV.
Those serving as pallbearers are grandsons, Jarrod, Josh, Nathanial, Alvin, great-grandson, Hayden, and special friends Louie Johnson, Jimmy Slaughter, and Jimmy Helmadollar.
Funeral Service will be Friday, January 30, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Directory, Princeton, WV with Pastor John Godfrey officiating. Burial will follow at the Roselawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2026 at the funeral home.
