Nina Rose Shorter, 83, of Princeton, died July 5, 2024, at Mercer Healthcare Center in Bluefield. Born March 1, 1941, at Elgood, she was the daughter of the late Jess Willard Nelson & Elsie Hazelwood Nelson. She graduated from Athens High School in 1959. Nina was a former employee with Maidenform, Comfort Inn and retired from CMS. She was a member of Green Springs Baptist Church. Nina loved going to Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg TN and was always ready to travel with her family & friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son in law, Cary Gordon Hubbard, three siblings: Lewis Nelson, Imogene Akers & Lorene Akers. Those left to cherish her memory, her husband of 62 years, John Allen Shorter, her daughter Deborah Denise Shorter Hubbard, two grandchildren, Cary Matthew Hubbard & wife Ruby, Joshua James Hubbard & wife Anna, two great grandchildren, Thomas & Rhea Hubbard. Two siblings, Emelene Akers & Betty Shorter along with a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Nina Shorter will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Cooks Chapel Baptist Church at Pipestem with Pastor Dallas Peyton officiating. Burial will follow in the Shorter Family Cemetery on Bent Mountain Road near Lerona. Friends may visit with the family Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the church and one hour prior to services at the church.
