Nancy Carolyn Smith Jones, 90, of Princeton, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior early Monday morning, December 29, 2025, at her home with her daughters by her side.
Nancy was born on August 6, 1935, in Cherry Falls, WV, the only child of the late Bert W. and F. Paulette Smith of Princeton. She attended school in Webster Springs and graduated from Scott High School in Madison, WV. Nancy was a graduate of Marshall University where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega. With her late husband, Norman, she lived in Baltimore, MD, and taught math and science at Golden Ring Junior High School. They moved to Coalwood, WV, where she served as Girl Scout Troop Leader and as President of Olga Women's Club. After moving to Princeton in 1969, she served in many roles including: Substitute Teacher, Homeroom Mother, President and Treasurer of PTA, President of PHS Band Parents, and Madrigal Parent's Association. She was also an active member of First United Methodist Church where she served on various committees.
Always helping others with a servant's heart, Nancy lived as a constant example of selflessness. Her gift of hospitality shone brightly as she often opened her home to family and friends. She made Sunday dinners and holiday gatherings a tradition in the most loving of ways. She took great joy living life with Norman, her forever sweetheart. Throughout her life, she drew strength from the Lord and relied on the Hope that is found in Jesus. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will be cherished for generations.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of sixty-six years, Dr. Norman "Doc" L. Jones.
Survivors include three daughters, Prisca Dalton (Greg) of Speedway; Penny Eanes (Eric) of Charlotte, NC; and Petrina Pate (Rick) of Salem, VA;Five grandchildren, Laura Armato (Josh) of Blairsville, GA; Kacie Fleming (Daniel) of Franklinton, NC; Olivia Basha (Hanna) of Ramallah, Palestine; Cole Pate (Lucinda) of Harrisonburg, VA; and Isabella Pate of Salem, VA; Six great-grandchildren, Abby, David, Henry, Eli and Charlie Armato; and Nadia Basha.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of Hospice Compassus of Princeton for their love and ministry for our Mother and for us as we cared for her.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 9, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in
Princeton with the Reverend Michael Rexroad officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the service hour at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
