Obituary

Mettie Lakin Lamb Foley, 86, of Pine Grove Road, Lerona, died Sunday, August 21, 2022, at Nelson's Personal Care in Princeton. Born, August 23, 1935, in Springton, she was the daughter of Gradie Tilman Lamb, Sr. and Susie Collins Lamb. Mettie was a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved having her grandchildren live close by, watching them grow and play and have families of their own. Mettie cherished the closeness of her little family.Mettie was a graduate of Athens High School, Concord College (University) and was a retired school teacher from the Mercer  County Board of Education with over 20 years of service. Mettie was the family historian.  She was very gifted and talented in knitting and crocheting, especially prayer shawls, whom she gave out frequently to those who were battling various illnesses. Mettie was a member of the Lerona United Methodist Church, and when special events were being held, she was responsible for the advertising of those events. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie D. Foley, and four siblings, Mary Harris, Ira Lamb, Gradie Lamb, Jr., and Thomas (Tom) Lamb. Gary Michael Foley and wife, Kim; One sister, Paula Crowder; Two grandchildren, Rebecca Marie Terrell and husband Richard, Boss Michael Foley and wife Kayla; Great-grandson, Tripp Terrell; Several nieces, nephews and friends also survive. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mettie Foley will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, August 24, 2022, from the Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor David White officiating. Burial will follow in the Athens Cemetery. Family will serve as pallbearers.  Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.memorialf.com.
