Obituary

Mary "Alice" Cockerham, 87, of Julian, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 28th, 2024. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. Alice was born on September 10th, 1937, in Tabor City, N.C., to the late Archie McCoy Norris and Zellie Ellen (Nobles) Norris.

Throughout her life, Alice worked diligently, caring for her younger siblings, and assisting her family with tobacco farming. After completing high school, she attended King's College in Charlotte, N.C., and later worked as a secretary before embracing the role of a devoted stay-at-home mom. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, David Lee Norris and Felton McLloyd Norris; one sister, Eleanor "Ellen" Adaline (Norris) Cottom; one daughter, Baby Cockerham; her first husband, Clyde H. Piver (Sue & Max); and her second husband, William H. Cockerham (Karen, Brenda, Jeremiah & Amy).

She is survived by four daughters: Sue Piver-Lewis (Joseph) of Oak Ridge, N.C., Amy Cregger (Shannon) of Julian, N.C., Brenda Workman (Mark) of Princeton, W.V., and Karen Marple (Charlie) of Hutchison Island, F.L.; two sons: Max Piver (Valerie) of Burlington, N.C., and Jeremiah Nelson (Amy) of Princeton, W.V.; twelve grandchildren: Tiffany Piver, Aaron Piver, Gabrielle Saveljic, Caleb Lewis, Jennifer Workman, Benjamin Workman, Danielle Madison, William Workman, Shannon Marple, Alona Cregger, Ada Cregger, and Evie Nelson; sixteen great-grandchildren; five sisters: Hattie Todd of Conway, S.C., Pricilla Mills of Whiteville, N.C., Allene Tyler, Faye Booth, and Jeanette Livingston, all of Tabor City, N.C.; Three brothers: Hollon Norris, Stewart Norris, and Casey Norris, also of Tabor City, N.C.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mary "Alice", will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, November 1, 2024, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor C. J. Drake officiating.  Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Princeton.  Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour at the funeral home.
