Mary Ellen (Byrd) Worrell-Brookman, 84 of Spanishburg, died peacefully Thursday morning July 10, 2025 at her home with family at her side. Born July 10, 1941, in Kanawha County, she was the daughter of the late Arvel Byrd & Una Russell Byrd. Mary graduated from Richwood High School and the Mercer County Vo Tech Center Nursing Program. She retired from Princeton Community Hospital with 25 years of service. Mary was a member of the Gloryland Baptist Church at Camp Creek. While her health permitted, she enjoyed quilting, reading and working in the garden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her 1st husband J.P.Worrell Jr, 2nd husband Junior Brookman, two sons, Curt Douglas Worrell & Kevin Worrell along with three siblings: Martin Byrd, Margie Gadd & Marvin Thomas. Survivors include three children: Cynthia Louise Knight, James Paul Worrell III & wife Mary, Brian Lee Worrell, four siblings: Maretta Smith, Margaret Thorness, Martha Thomas & Marlin Byrd. Fourteen grandchildren: Cydni Patton, Billy Knight, Bobby Ray Knight, Bryan Knight, Amber Worrell, Tonya Snapp, Heather Worrell, Damion Rose, Jessica Porterfield, Curt Worrell, Ashley Worrell, Preston Worrell, Matthew Worrell and Derick Welton and great grandchildren Colton, Kaitlyn, Makaila, Brayden, Haley, Beth, Johnny, Timothy & Rachal, along with a host of nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 15, 2025 in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Jamie Mattox officiating. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until service time. A graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Those wishing to attend are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 A.M. Online condolences may be shared with the family via http://www.memorialfd.com. The Worrell-Brookman family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
