Mary Elizabeth "Bettie" Bowles, 88 of Green Valley, died Friday evening, May 30, 2025 at Glenwood Healthcare Center. Born April 21, 1937, in Simmons, WV she was the daughter of the late William Johnson Duncan and Anna Virginia Chilco Duncan. Bettie was a graduate of Beaver High School and Bluefield State College. She lived and worked with Colonial American Bank in Roanoke, Virginia for 23 years before moving back to West Virginia, where she worked for Energy Development Corporation and eventually retired from the DHHR. Bettie loved to travel and spend time with her family especially her Grand and Great Grandchildren. Her love of children led her to be active with Foster Children and serve as a Youth Leader in the Bluewell Methodist Church. Mary was a dedicated Christian and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Princeton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband Jimmie Dale Bowles and a Sister, Kay White.
Survivors include her son, William Henry "Bill" Stowers and his wife Debra of Roanoke, Virginia. Two grandchildren, Jessica Hicks and Brad Hicks. Two Great Grandchildren, Eli Martin and Jaxson Hicks. One Sister, Barbara Mitchem of Princeton and One Brother, Douglas Duncan of Ocoee, Florida. Nieces, Doranna Mitchem, Melinda Mitchem and Mariann Love and their families. Nephew, Paul Duncan and his family.
Services to Celebrate the Life of Bettie Bowles will be held 2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 6, 2025, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Gerald Roberts officiating. Inurnment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell. Friends may visit with the family Friday from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour.
