Lorene Akers, 85, of Princeton, died peacefully Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Stonerise Healthcare in Lindside, WV. Born January 28, 1938, in Elgood, daughter of the late Jess Willard Nelson and Elsie Hazelwood Nelson. Lorene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and was a faithful Christian. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband Sparrel "Jack" Akers and two siblings, Lewis Nelson and Imogene Akers. Survivors include her three children, Sparrel Akers Jr., Jeffrey Akers (Evelyn) and Diana Woodard; Seven grandchildren; Ten great-grandchildren; Three siblings, Emelene Akers, Betty Shorter and Nina Shorter; Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Lorene Akers will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, October 16, 2023, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Max Benson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elgood Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from Noon until the service hour at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
