Larry D.
Spangler
Aug 28, 1946 — Mar 13, 2025
Larry D. Spangler, age 78, of Princeton, West Virginia, died peacefully into the arms of the Lord on March 13, 2025 while surround by his family at WVU Princeton Community Hospital. Born in Princeton, West Virginia, on August 28, 1946, he was the son of the late James McCoy Spangler and Ada Marie Taylor Spangler. He graduated Princeton High School in 1965 and went on to Bluefield Business College for business management.
Larry was a well-known figure in the community, having owned and operated the Burger Boy Restaurant (Taste Freeze) in Princeton for 45 years until his health wouldn't allow him to continue. His passion for serving others extended beyond his restaurant; he was a devoted member of Liberty Baptist Church, Shields Chapel (former deacon), and most recently, Maranatha Baptist Church. Throughout his numerous hospitalizations, Larry always stayed positive and felt God had placed him there each time to be a witness to the hospital staff he encountered. He was an avid Nascar fan, loved his westerns/horses and was always full of dad jokes. He loved to tell stories about never needing a 4wd, that he could go anywhere he wanted in a 2wd because it was all in the driver. He also loved to talk about his drag racing days. He was a very determined man in everything he did.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Victoria Ann Akers Spangler. He is survived by three lovely daughters: Melissa Dawn Wilmoth (Rodney Haynes, Sr.), Michelle Spangler, and Melanie Deann Spangler. He cherished his five grandchildren: Brandon Wilmoth, Cody Ray Wilmoth, Devon Blake Wilmoth, Mason Uriah Shorter, and Luke Andru Shorter, along with four great-grandchildren. Larry also leaves behind one sister, Kathy Roberts (Pastor Steve), as well as several nieces and nephews. He had wonderful caregivers who helped take such good care of him in the last couple years as well.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on Athens Road in Princeton, with Pastors Steve Roberts and Dr. Christopher Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends and family are invited to visit on Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. His grandchildren and family members will serve as pallbearers.
