Karen Rae Shook, 68, of Princeton, peacefully entered into her heavenly home Monday, May 22, 2023, at Raleigh General Hospital following a short illness. Born January 3, 1955, in Leatherwood, KY., she was the daughter of the late Calvin Coolidge Shook & Kathleen Coffee Shook. After graduating from high school, Karen received her LPN certificate from the Mercer County Vocational Center. She loved nursing and retired after more than 30 years of service. Most of her career was spent caring for patients at Princeton Community Hospital. She had attended Lerona United Methodist Church, where for many years she served as a pianist. While her health permitted, she enjoyed planting and working in her flower gardens, playing music, taking care of her animals, bird watching and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lynn Bobbit. She is survived by two daughters, Angela Elkins (Jacob) and Kayla Morey both of Beckley, WV., five grandchildren; Peighton, Sage, Paisley, Bodhi & Presley, two siblings; Kathy Phillips (Mark) of Speedway, WV., & Chris Shook (Dawn) of Hallsville, TX., along with multiple nieces and nephews. The family has honored her wishes, she has been cremated and there will be no services. Her family and close friends will gather to celebrate her life privately.
