Obituary

Karen "Hope" Proffitt, 71, of Bluefield, died peacefully Friday, July 4, 2025, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born November 29, 1953, in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Lura "Blue" Allen Carper & Betty Jo Wert Carper. Hope graduated from Princeton High School. She worked for Dr. Javier as a receptionist for 28 years and was currently working for Lamb Machine. Hope was an active and dedicated member of the Williams Chapel Church of Christ; she loved her Lord and Savior. She was an avid reader and cherished her time with a close-knit circle of friends in a beloved book club. Hope loved going to the beach, but most of all, Hope loved being with her family and was always eager to see her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great nieces & nephews, supporting them in whatever events they were involved with at the time. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Jones. Those left to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of 53 years, Calvin H. Proffitt, one son, Calvin H. Proffitt Jr., three grandchildren who she loved dearly, Kristen Brooke Proffitt, Emily Kate Proffitt, & Matthew Belcher Proffitt. Three siblings; Linda Neal & husband Bobby, Richard Carper & wife Jan, & Peggy Lamb. Hope loved all her nieces and nephews, she was very close to her nieces Brandi Mace, Cindy McMorris & husband Daren and their children, Becka & Zac, and an incredibly special friend to Janet Collins. Services to celebrate the life of Hope Proffitt will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, July 12, 2025, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton, with Harold Goins officiating. Friends may visit with the family Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the service hour.
