Joyce Ann Shorter, age 89, completed her earthly journey and passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday afternoon, January 24th, at Nelsons Board and Care in Princeton.

She was born in Montcalm, WV on May 4th, 1934, to Luther and Emma Morris, and was raised in the Gardner Community.  She lived her entire life in Mercer County, raising her own family only a short distance from where she, herself, was raised.  She was a 1953 graduate of Concord Training School in Athens and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She was a friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. "Buster" Shorter, parents, Luther and Emma Morris, siblings Henry Morris and Evelyn Carper. She is survived by her three children, Rita Woods (Stanley), Hank Shorter (Judy), Robby Shorter (Debra), three grandchildren, Jocelyn Woods, Allison Woods, and Joshua Shorter.

Honoring her wishes, she will be cremated, and her ashes will be interred at Bethel Cemetery at a later date.

There will be a service to celebrate her life at 11:00 A.M., on Saturday, February 3, 2024, in the Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Robby Shorter officiating.  Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until the service hour at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Hospice Compassus,  1330 Mercer Street, Princeton WV 24740 OR any charity you might choose to support in her honor.
