John Nichols
“Nick" Weaver
Dec 9, 1953 — Jul 6, 2025
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 8:38-39
While we will forever feel the loss of our beloved husband, father and Poppy, John Nichols Weaver, we rejoice in knowing that he was able to be immediately in the presence of the Lord he loved so deeply on July 6th, 2025.
Born in Bluefield, West Virginia on December 9th, 1953 to John Elwood Weaver and Edna Virginia Nichols, he quickly became "Nick" to so many. Throughout his years at Oakvale High School he played basketball, ran track, and sang in the choir until he graduated in 1971. At 17, he proudly enlisted in the Air Force serving with the Military Police. During his military career he was stationed on bases in both Germany and North Dakota. Here his heart and passion for patriotism flourished. He was very honored to have served during that season of his life. After his honorable discharge, he began his 32 year career with American Electric Power in Bluefield, West Virginia first reading meters and then as a fleet mechanic in a position his father held just years before. He proudly used his dad's toolbox for many of the years he worked in the garage at AEP. Nick took great pride in his work. He was a dedicated, skilled mechanic known for his integrity and unwavering work ethic. He believed you were always late for work unless you were ready to go before the clock ever started.
Nick had a lifelong passion for sports of all kinds, finding joy in playing, coaching and watching throughout his life. A true Mountaineer at heart, he was passionate and well versed in WVU football and basketball and he loved watching NASCAR and cheering for Dale Earnhardt. He was especially proud of his time being a part of the coaching staff for the girls' basketball team at Mercer Christian Academy, which saw multiple state championship wins. This was one of the highlights of his life. He cherished the relationships he had with his church family at Johnston Chapel Baptist Church in Princeton, WV even long after he moved to Florida to retire in the sunshine state. During his retirement, he volunteered as the President of the Victory Center Military Store in Vero Beach, Florida, where veterans raise funds to care for other veterans.
He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother and only sister, Patricia Mae Weaver - all of whom he is certainly celebrating with today.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Agnes (Aggie) Thomas. They shared a beautiful life and treasured raising a family together. His most cherished role was Daddy to his two daughters who he was so proud of - Jessica Nicole and her husband Brent Loper, Carrie Lynn and husband Kyle Painter. After raising daughters, he was thrilled to have grandsons to call him Poppy - Brody Rayf, Levi Nicholas, Kellen Rhys, and Lucas Shaun. He spent the later years of his life soaking up every moment he could with them. They will each carry these special moments and memories of their time with their Poppy forever in their hearts.
The service will be officiated by Pastor Jim Nofsinger. Pallbearers will be his dear friends Kenny Mandeville, Johnny George, and Bobby Bolton; the two men he was so grateful to call his sons-in-law, Kyle Painter and Brent Loper; and his special nephew Quincy Thomas. Following behind their most adored Poppy, his grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 14th, 2025 at Memorial Funeral Directory, 654 Athens Rd, Princeton, WV 24740. Visitation will begin at 10am with the service starting at 11am, followed by burial at Roselawn Memorial Gardens on Courthouse Road in Princeton, West Virginia.
