John H. McGinnis IV, 55, of Bluefield, died suddenly Sunday evening, August 27, 2023, at his home. Born January 31, 1968, in Roanoke, VA, he is the son of John H. McGinnis III of Keen, NH and the late Margaret Elaine "Sue" Wiley McGinnis. John graduated from East Greenwich High School in Rhode Island, he later graduated from Bluefield State College and earned his law degree from Appalachian School of Law. John worked for several years in the Public Defender's Office, clerked for both Judge Frazier & Judge Saddler & served as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for both Mercer & McDowell County's as well as being in private practice for himself. John had been an active member with the Bluefield/Mercer Masonic Lodge # 85 where he served as Junior Warden and Treasurer.  He was a member of the Tri Angle Sportsman Club, loved old movies, Star Wars and enjoyed going to the shooting range to practice target shooting. Those left to cherish his memory, his wife of 28 years, Diane Nuckols McGinnis, Father John & stepmother Susan, daughter Christina McGinnis & companion Coty, two grandchildren, Aslynn & Carlyle Kotlan and a sister Margaret McGinnis. A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 2, 2023, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Jim Palmer officiating. Friends may visit with the family Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour. The family has honored John's wishes, he has been cremated and at a later time, his cremains will be scattered at the Beaver Trail Lighthouse in Rhode Island.
