Obituary

Joffree Lee Cooper, 71, of Old Lerona Road, Lerona, passed away early Sunday morning, May 7, 2023, at his home with his loving wife by his side.  Born, August 7, 1951, he was the son of the late Joffree Elvin Cooper and Edna Ruth Short Cooper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Elvin Lewis Cooper. Lee and his brother both shared a love of sports cars, and he was often happiest behind the wheel, under the hood, or sharing photos of his personal favorites.  Lee was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who dearly loved his family and his Lord. He was a long-standing member of Lerona United Methodist Church.  Lee loved to put smiles on the faces of others, whether it was with his silly sense of humor, his incredible artistic abilities, or the magic he could work in a kitchen making his family's favorites like his mashed potatoes and his famous stuffed mushrooms. He loved a good conversation, particularly when it came to talking about his love of history, and he never knew a stranger. Lee also cared deeply for animals and was often found in the company of his beloved dogs, Bean and Coco. Lee was a 1970 graduate of Hinton High School. After graduating, he went on to become a pipefitter/welder and then supervisor for a coal preparation plant.  Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Nancy Goodall Cooper; Two children, Heather Johnson and husband Kenny Joe, and Joffree Jared Cooper and wife Julianne; Two grandchildren, Zoe Johnson "Pawpaw's Angel" and his "Little Buddy", Carson Lee Cooper; One step-grandson, Bobby Joe Johnson; One sister, Edna Ann Lester and husband Bill; Several nieces, nephews, and his church family also survive.  Funeral services to celebrate the life of Lee Cooper will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 11, 2023, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor David White officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers and to celebrate Lee's lifelong love of animals, the family has requested donations be sent in Lee's memory to the Mercer County Humane Society, P.O. Box 5723, Princeton, WV 24740. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.memorialfd.com .
