Jessie Helen Mathena Morris, 93, of Princeton, died peacefully Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the Princeton Health Care Center. Born July 18, 1931, in Princeton, she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Hazel Poff Mathena.
Jessie was a homemaker her entire life. She loved her family, loved to cook, she also loved her Lord, her church and all the church members. Jessie never knew a stranger. She had a smile and warmth about her that reached out to everyone she met. She always ended a conversation to anyone, with a hug. She will long be remembered for her macaroni and cheese, her peanut butter chews and her pies.
Jessie was a member of the Princeton Nazarene Church on the Oakvale Road. She sang in the choir, attended Sunday school class regularly and was the church greeter for many years. She was a lifelong resident of Princeton. Jessie was preceded by her husband Junior, son Jimmy; sisters, Emma Belcher, Annie Bradbury, Ella Six; brothers, Randolph & Basil Mathena.
Survivors, her son, Matthew Morris and wife Kathy Morris of Princeton; Daughters, Bonnie Canterbury (Harry) and Betty Montgomery both of Princeton; Her two twin brothers, Willis Mathena of Princeton, and Wilfred (Cuzzie) Mathena of Bluefield; She is also survived by her loving fuzzy feline companion, Sandy; She had several nieces and nephews that dearly loved her; Nieces; Regina (Buster) Snead, Jackie (Darrell) Phillips, Diane Taylor, Patty Ball, Janice (Eric) Hodge, Karen Walters, Teresa (Matthew) Harvey, Carolyn (Darrell) Brown; Nephews; Steve (Diane) Belcher, Darrel Mathena and Jeffrey Mathena.
Services to honor and celebrate the life of Jessie Morris will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from the Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road with Pastors Joey Hodge and Robby Shorter officiating. Entombment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family Tuesday, February 4, 2025, from 5:00 P.M until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
