James Ellis Powell 75 of Princeton, WV passed away on November 8, 2024. James was born on April 8, 1949, to Ollie and Francis Powell of McDowell County. He was a master electrician, retired from Brooks Run Mining company, but enjoyed many years working alongside his brother Charles at Blackhawk Mining. A lifelong enthusiast of cars, motorcycles, and collecting, James had a passion for life and adventure. He is preceded in death by both parents, the love of his life Mary Belcher, as well as brothers Kenneth, Charles, David and Carl Powell; sisters Grace Pendleton and Judy Testerman.

Survivors include daughters Heather (Josh) Wilson of Matthews, NC and Chrissy (Danny) Hurley of Princeton, Patty Powell who helped raise his children and will forever be a part of the family, sister Phyllis Shepherd; brothers Lee (Velvet), Paul (Felicia) and Randy (Carolyn). He was a loving grandfather to five grandchildren that he was so proud of: Kayla Wimmer and her significant other, Bobby McGill, Cheyenne Loomis and her fiancé Bradley Brown, Justin Wilson and his significant other, Emily Spotloe, Ella Wilson, and the youngest, Piper Hurley who brought him so much light and joy in his last years. James will be dearly missed by his family for whom he loved and cared for immensely.

Funeral Service will be held 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 12, 2024, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on Athens Road in Princeton, with Pastor Emory Merchant officiating.  Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. until the service hour. At the funeral home.
