Obituary

James (Jim) Randolph Turpin, Sr., 92, of Princeton, West Virginia, passed away on September 18, 2026. Born on November 11, 1933, in McDowell County, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Rev. King and Bertha Turpin.

Jim spent the greater part of his life in the Princeton area. He began his career as an auto technician with Appalachian Power Company in Welch, West Virginia, and went on to serve the company—part of American Electric Power—as an electrical engineer in the Bluefield, West Virginia, division.

A man of deep and abiding faith, Jim was a longtime member of Princeton Church of God—now known as Lifeline—where he gave himself generously to the life of the church. Over the years, he taught Sunday School, served as Sunday School superintendent, drove for the bus ministry, sang in the choir, and served on the Church and Pastor's Council. He served on the West Virginia State Laymen's Board for the Church of God and participated in disaster relief efforts in southern West Virginia. One of his great joys was praying with people at the altar.

He is survived by his two sons, eighteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of seventy-two years, Betty Jean Turpin.

Funeral services will be held Monday September 28, 2026, at 11 AM in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Home, Athens Road, Princeton with Pastor J.B. Hurt officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family from 10 AM until the service hour at the funeral home.
