Obituary

James W. ("Jim") Robinson, 72, of Bluefield, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Princeton Community Hospital following a long illness. Born February 11, 1952, in Clairton, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph Warren Robinson and Betty Jane Robinson Gibson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Wayne Craig Robinson (Kim), his stepfather, Harry E. Gibson and a stepsister Kaaren Gibson Kusturis.

Left to cherish his memory, his loving wife Sharon Robinson, his beautiful daughters, Amy Louise Alphin (Tom), & Laura Anne Robinson; two stepchildren, Erin Michelle Hall & Christopher Harold Copley (Miranda); five grandchildren, Taylor M. Hall (Skyler Wilson), Huner C. Copley, James W. Robinson II, Reed C. Copley, and Henry Ryan Alphin.

Also of special mention, his nephew Scott Robinson (Sherri); his nieces, Tracy Chakey (Dennis) and Kelly Robinson. His former wife, Louise Bagwell (Charles) and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Jim earned his undergraduate degree from West Virginia University and his master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. During his 41-year career in the coal industry, he became one of the top experts in coal metallurgy.  He travelled the globe marketing metallurgical coals and consulting with steel producers where he made many life-long friends.  Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and friend. He will certainly be missed by all who were privileged to have known him.

He was a sports fanatic and one of the Pittsburgh Steelers' biggest and most loyal fans.  Watching games without him "coaching" from the recliner certainly won't be the same. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed his days on the course.  His dry wit and humor will be remembered forever.

The family has honored his wishes to be cremated.

Dr. Charles Bagwell will officiate the memorial service to be held on August 31 at 1:00 pm at The Brandermill Church in Midlothian, VA.   Inurnment will follow in the Memorial Garden at the church immediately following the service.
