Obituary

Mr. James A. "Jim" Granger, 96, passed away peacefully at home, on September 22, 2025, following a brief illness. Jim was born April 26, 1929, in Washington, D. C., and lived the first years of his life in Silver Spring, Maryland. In December 1938, young Jim moved to Bluefield, West Virginia, with his parents, Julian A. Granger and Dorothy Helmick Granger, and two sisters.

Jim graduated from Beaver High School in 1947, then from McLean's Business College in Bluefield. He served in the West Virginia National Guard, 29th Armored Cavalry Division. Jim worked most of his life in the family business, Bluefield News Agency, Inc., where he served was president until his retirement in 1995. Jim was a fifty+ year member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir, and of the Bluefield, WV Lions Club, where he held a number of offices, including president, from 1999 – 2000.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Margot L. Richardson Granger; his sisters, Dorothy "Dot" Granger Bryant and Julia "Judy" Granger Dawson, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his children, daughter Jamie Lynn Damewood and son-in-law, William; son Tom Granger and daughter-in-law, Tiffany; and son, James Granger, II; brother, Charles H. "Chuck" Granger, of N. C.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, between the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Entombment will occur on September 25, 2025, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, in a private moment for the family.
