Obituary

James Ervin Cahill, 93, of Princeton, passed away early Tuesday, December 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born February 28, 1932, in Princeton, he was the son of the late William Loy and Bertha Lockhart Cahill.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his siblings William "Red" Cahill, Danese Barberie, Pauline Fink, Helen Elmore, and Betty Cahill.

James was a member of Kee Street United Methodist Church and shared 74 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sarah Fry Cahill.

Survivors include two children, Robert Cahill and Barbara Cahill Parsons (Don); two grandchildren, Rebecca Manning (Scott) and Brad Cahill (Meagan); five great-grandchildren: Emily Surface, Kayla Surface, Julie Surface, Elin Cahill, and Tori Cahill; and one great-great grandchild Grayson Weatherly.

A Princeton Senior High graduate, James excelled in football and basketball, earning numerous trophies. He later coached Little League football. Though awarded a football scholarship to WV Tech, he chose to marry the love of his life, Sarah and start a family. He worked for N&W Railroad, the Department of Highways, and retired from Norfolk Southern in Bluefield.

James loved the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish with family and friends.

The family extends special thanks to caregivers Charley Franklin and Renee Cole for their devoted care.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Home, Athens Road, Princeton with Pastor David Lee and John Puckett officiating.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
