Ivan Ray Garretson, 77, of Lerona, died suddenly Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Princeton Community Hospital.

Born July 7, 1948, on Barkers Ridge (Wyoming County), he was the son of the late Ivan R. Garretson & Frances Daniels Garretson. Ivan spent 10 years of his life in the coal mines, after that period of time, he was in the construction business, having worked all around this area. He loved working in his garage and his garden, doing woodworking and reading and studying the word of God. Ivan was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Princeton. Ivan served with the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Hillard Garretson & Linda Walls.

Those left to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 20 years, Wanda Shrewsbury Garretson, three children, Susan Carrico & husband Johnny, Donnie Ray Garretson, Bryan Joseph Garretson, Grandson Cole Ivan Garretson, three siblings, Dr. Charles Garretson, Drema Farley, & Gene Daniels & wife Linda.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Jeremy Peters officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the service time. Following his service, he will be cremated and in the spring of the year, his inurnment will be held in the Garretson Family Cemetery at Basin WV.
