Gus Eugene “Gene” Roberts, 83, of Pipestem, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. 

Born on May 22, 1943, in New Mexico, Gene was the son of the late Gus Roberts and Pearl Bostic Roberts. 

Gene was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Ellen Roberts. Together they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with love, faith, family, and countless cherished memories. 

Gene dedicated 30 years of his life working in the coal mines, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. Outside of work, he was an avid hunter who found great joy in the outdoors. Whether in the woods or spending time with those he loved, Gene appreciated life’s simple blessings. A faithful member of the Church of God in Athens, West Virginia, Gene’s faith was an important part of his life. He was a devoted family man whose greatest joy came from spending time with his loved ones. While he was proud of many accomplishments throughout his life, one of his greatest honors was being called “Pawpaw.” He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren beyond measure, and his legacy of love, strength, and devotion will live on through each of them. Gene will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering dedication to his family, and the love he freely gave to everyone who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will be treasured forever.

 In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brother Marvin Kennedy, sisters, Phyllis Osborne, Linda Delgado, Joann Roberts and grandson Tyler Blankenship. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 64 years, Ellen Roberts; his son Ricky Roberts (Jennifer) of Iaeger WV, Tammy Blankenship of Pipestem WV, grandsons David Roberts (Amanda) of Pipestem WV, Austin Blankenship (Amanda) of Pipestem WV, granddaughters Latoshia Owens (Travis) of Indiana, ShaHannah Begley (Kaleb) of Tazewell VA, great-grandchildren Paisley and Weston Blankenship of Pipestem WV, Kohana and Harper Owens of Indiana and a special granddaughter Brianna Taylor; sisters Helen (Manuel) Cervantes of Oceanside, CA, Sharon (Neal) Hagerman of Rural Retreat Va; brothers Bobby Roberts of Lerona WV, and Ralph (Lynn) Roberts of Bluefield Va. The family wishes to express their gratitude to all those who have offered their love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Funeral services will be held on, Friday June 26, 2026, at 2 PM in the Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory, Athens Road, Princeton. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until the service hour. Interment to follow in Roberts Family Cemetery Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
