Gayla Sue Slade, 82, of Chesapeake, passed away Friday, October 4th, 2024. Raised in Bluefield, VA, she was the daughter of Paul and Willie Mae Presley. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary Slade.
Gayla graduated from Graham High School and McClains Business College in Bluefield, WV. She went on to serve as Office Manager of Romero Family Practice with over 10 years of service helping the locals of the Hampton Roads area. After retirement, she continued to be active with her husband, Gary, in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 80.
Together, they contributed over the years, unreservedly, in numerous local charities as well as charities back home in Bluefield, in particular causes promoting children's welfare, animal welfare, and nature preservation were very close to their hearts. Gayla lived 1000 lives through her life-long love of reading and books and she was a caretaker all of her life for her family both adults and children, always taking care of those in need and having a gift in hand for all the family children over the years.
She is survived by her loving son, Larry Slade, and granddaughters: Cailey Slade and fiancé Italo Etkin, Michelle and Nick Reed and children Lennon and Quinn, and MacKenzi and Justin Moore, as well as close family members Ronda Via White and Larry White, Adam and Catherine White and children Cooper and Stella, Lindsey White and daughter Henley Starnes, Jim and Angelica Via, Jessie Via, Jeremy Via, and Jeanette Powers, and Gayla's sister-in-law, Maxine Bourne and her grandchildren Richard III and Nicholas.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Oakwood Cemetery in Princeton. Those wishing to attend the services are requested to meet at the cemetery by service hour.
